I'm a Big Fan

I love fans! I absolutely LOOOOVE a good looking fan! The fans in our rental are generally hideous. Case in point:

And it doesn't get any better once you get into the master bedroom:

Oh yeah, it's all black with GOLD accents! Try not freaking out in the middle of the night when your NyQuil wears off and you are in the middle of a giant spider dream...mmhhmm...it's happened.

But this is what I'm talking about when it comes to what I want fanning me in the cool night air or midmorning sun:

I live in the South and these things are in every fancy-do hotel I have ever spent time in. The catch is though that you have to have a tall enough ceiling to make the effect work. Sadly, we don't. But a girl can dream can't she?

Most Beautiful Childrens Hospital

Sorry no words from me yesterday but there was a valid reason. I spent most of my day fretting over my firstborn son and his first - and hopefully last - foray into the hospital for oral surgery. Yes, my son is the kid screaming from the back office of the Dentist making your kid start to squirm and get nervous thinking that his fate will be the same. So our last ditch effort was to get him fully anesthetized and do all the work in one shot.

He was fine, I was the blubbery mess, he lived, has nice teeth to show for it, and now onto the goods!

He went to Arnold Palmer Childrens Hospital in Orlando, FL. We live nowhere near there so of course the majority of my day was spent in the car commuting to and fro. This place is absolutely gorgeous!

Here are just a few pictures for you to see what they had going on...

This was inlaid at the front of the information desk.

But what is that detail? Is that beading? Wait for it....

They're marbles!!! This is just screaming "Duplicate me somehow!" I can see this showing up in my childrens toy box. Hmm...

Now look at this childrens' waiting table...don't mind my daughter looking over and above me like I didn't just say "Look at Mommy....say cheese!"

It's so Leroy Jetson, this table, isn't it?
And check out this gem of a detail...

A webbed foot like a duck...my head exploded after I saw this. Good thing I was at the hospital.

And finally take a look see at this "tree" at the Nurses Station. The branches reached the ceiling and then they painted leaves onto the ceiling panels as well. Too cute.

I hope you enjoyed this architectural gem of a Hospital. If the decor wasn't comforting enough, the staff was awesome as well. So if your wee one has to get treated for anything while in the state of FL - request to be dropped off here.

I was given permission to take these photos by more than one member of personnel. The only stipulation was no patients or staff could be captured. I hope I followed their guidelines. These photos are my own property, if you would like to use them, just please either drop me a line telling me so, and link back to me here. Thanks!

A Milestone I Guess...

As of yesterday we decided that we would start the process of trying to get our credit together so as to purchase our first home! Shreaking like a little girl at a pajama party here....

I'm so excited. As of yesterday afternoon, we sent out all of our letters to our credit agencies contesting anything on them that are looking kinda fishy to us. Now I believe they have 30 days to respond before we can move forward with our next step. Whatever that may be.

Thankfully, while researching from A to Z all things "first-time homebuyers" I have come across many helpful people and guides. At the bottom of this blog actually, you can see the HGTV Home Guide widget. You can click on that for invaluable information wherever you may live and whatever stage of buying you may be in as well.

Not too long ago, I was contacted by a man who promised to help me get my credit in order but he was going to charge us - are you sitting? - $400 bucks! Now since we don't have that kind of cheddar, I kindly declined his offer for help. Again, thanks to meeting a woman along the way that deals with first-time homebuyers she was able to steer me in the right direction towards a program that my state actually offers. There are people on hand in every state that help you sort through credit issues - FREE OF CHARGE!

Come Monday, I am on the phone first thing with him. I'll let you know how it turns out.

My Top 5 Reasons to Buy a Home Now

Hopefully it's no secret on here that I would love to own my own home. There are a few variables that need to be in place however before that step can be taken. There are alot of things that could always go wrong when getting into real estate, but there are also so many things that can go right at the same time.

Here is my list of the Top 5 Reasons Why I Want to Buy a Home NOW....(no pressure hubby...)

1) Even though I get this glazed over vacant stare in my eyes whenever the topic of numbers and math is brought up, even I know that the whole interest rates, loan amounts, housing prices are so low that it would take an actual doornail to be dumb enough not to get in while the gettins good.

2) I have already fallen in love with about 3 houses in our town that just whisper to me "Come home to me, curl up with a good book in my window coves, paint me, water me, take out a low-interest mortgage on me..."

3) The price of homes in my Southern FL town are so low that it's absolutely disgusting. Just short of buying a house for $1.00 like I heard they were doing last year in Detroit, houses here are going for next to nothing. i.e. 4 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage - 79,900 - oh and did I mention that it was built in '05?

4) I wanted to get a dog but the hubs said no. I wanted a new car and the hubs said no to that too. I'm just trying to make grownup decisions here. I am almost 30 and what screams "grown up" more than a mortgage, a leaky roof, and eating in every day of the week to afford said mortgage?

5) I have watched so much HDTV and DIY Network to know how to build a house almost from the foundation up so why let all this knowledge rot and go to waste? These useful hands were made to custom decorate a home with paint swatches and custom curtains for reals!

I think that I have made a pretty good case and now I just have to convince the one with the European man-purse strings to read this post and get my subtle hints! ;o)

Thing I'm Loving This Thursday...

I say thing just because I have been dreaming of this one thing ever since I laid eyes on it earlier this week and just had to pass it along to any of you that may have missed it.

Look at this beaut of bathroom....courtesy of Young House Love.

Of course the whole thing is just insanely put together (in a good way) but the thing that really makes cameos in my dreams at night is their ceiling to floor 95" shower curtain. They are a rare breed, but guess who is going to track one down in the weeks to come? Moi. Good guess.

We Came To a Decision - Kinda...

Okay so remember the last post where I was lamenting what kind of house to get? Should we get a fixer upper and just spiff it up over the years or should we get that new construction that is move-in ready but lacks character?

Well we've come to a decision....I think.

Currently we are renting a pretty sweet house down South for basically next to nothing. Its a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom ranch style for only $500 bucks a month. Awesome right? Right. The downsides to this place is the 1 bathroom for 4 people can get hectic at times, nearly every single outlet gives of a slight spark every time we plug something in (which an electrician said to me once "That's perfectly NORMAL!") I think he was lying and paid off by the landlord. Oh and the street behind us had a drug bust at one of the properties. Greeeeeat! Safety is an issue on many levels with this house.

But other than that, this place is awesome. We have a den that is now serving as our office, a large screened in lanai (back porch essentially), huge yard for the kiddies to run amok, tire swing, shed, orange tree, fenced in. It's got a great feel to the place.

So my husband and I have decided to stay. And make this our home. And pray each night that we don't get robbed or blown up because the senior citizens down the street's meth lab exploded.

Until something better comes along..... ;o)
